Using Lumtap

Lumtap lets an AI assistant you trust use your own Android phone. It's two parts: the Lumtap app on your phone, and a connector you add to your assistant (Grok Bot, Claude, ChatGPT or any assistant that supports MCP connectors with sign-in). Your assistant can then see the screen and tap, swipe, type and open apps while you watch. You approve every assistant, and one tap stops it.

Setup

Set up in about two minutes

  1. Install the app

Download the Lumtap APK on your Android phone (Android 8.0 or newer) and open it. Android asks you to allow installs from your browser. On Android 13 and newer, if the Accessibility switch is greyed out, open Settings › Apps › Lumtap › ⋮ › Allow restricted settings first.

  2. Turn on Accessibility

Open the app and follow the prompt to turn on its Accessibility permission. This is how it reads the screen and taps for your assistant. No root, USB cable or developer options needed.

  3. Create an account and pair the phone

Sign in with your email (we send a 6-digit code), then tap Add a phone on your account page. In the app, tap Scan code and scan the QR, or tap Enter code and type it. Check that the app shows your email, then connect. Codes work once and expire after 2 minutes. You can also ask your assistant to “pair my phone” once the connector is added.

  4. Add the connector to your assistant

    Use this connector URL:

    https://lumtap.tech/mcp

    • Grok Bot: open your connector settings, add a custom connector and paste the URL.
    • Claude: Settings › Connectors › Add custom connector, paste the URL, then Connect.
    • ChatGPT: turn on Developer mode (Settings › Apps & Connectors › Advanced), then create a connector with the URL.
    • Other MCP assistants: add a remote (Streamable HTTP) MCP server with the URL. Sign-in uses OAuth, so you don't need to paste any key.

Your assistant opens a Lumtap sign-in page. Sign in, check the app name, and tap Allow.

  5. Approve the assistant on your phone

The first time an assistant sends a command, your phone asks you to approve it: Allow for 1 hour, Allow for 8 hours or Deny. Until you tap Allow, the assistant is told approval is needed. Approvals last at most 24 hours, then the phone asks again.

Tools

What the assistant can do

Reading tools only look: list_devices, screenshot, read_screen, get_screen_state, current_app, list_apps and wait_for_change.

Action tools change things on your phone, so assistants may ask you before using them: tap, tap_element, swipe, type_text, press_key and open_app. Account tools: create_pairing (new pairing code), wake_screen (turns the screen on, never unlocks) and revoke_device (unpairs a phone).

Safety

You stay in control

  • Approve every assistant, twice. Each assistant has to sign in to your account and get your Allow on the web, then your Allow on the phone itself. Disconnect it any time from your account page.
  • Blocked apps. Sensitive apps are blocked by default: banking and fintech apps, wallets, password managers, authenticator apps, SMS apps, app stores and security settings. If one opens, the assistant can only press Back or Home. You can add more apps to the list in the app.
  • STOP, always one tap away. The screen glows while the assistant acts. Tap STOP on the floating pill, in the notification or in the Quick Settings tile to end the session at once, even offline. The master switch in the app turns control off completely.
  • Never past the lock screen. Lumtap never enters a PIN, pattern or password. If the phone is locked, the assistant has to ask you to unlock it. Password fields are masked.
  • Screen text is treated as untrusted. Text read from your screen is labelled as untrusted data, so assistants are told not to follow instructions that appear inside apps, web pages or messages.
  • Signed commands. Each phone has its own key. Commands that are old, replayed or not approved on the phone are refused.
  • Nothing stored. Screenshots and screen text pass straight to your assistant and aren't kept on our server. Typed text is never logged. See the Privacy Policy.
Examples

Things to try

Ask in plain language. Good prompts say which app to use and when to stop and check with you.

Reply to a message

“Open WhatsApp, find my chat with Ada and tell her I'll be 10 minutes late. Show me the message before you send it.”

Find a setting

“On my phone, turn on Dark mode and set the screen timeout to 2 minutes.”

Check something in an app

“Open the Gmail app and tell me the subject lines of my 5 newest emails. Don't open or change anything.”

Fill in a form

“I've opened a sign-up form in Chrome. Fill in my name as Bola Ade and my city as Lagos, then stop so I can check it.”

Wait for something

“I'm playing chess in the Chess app. Wait for my opponent's move, then tell me what they played.”

Troubleshooting

When something's off

Still stuck? Email us with your phone model and what the assistant said.

The assistant says approval is required

Look at your phone: it's asking you to Allow this assistant. Tap Allow for 1 hour or 8 hours, then ask the assistant to try again.

The assistant says my phone is offline

Open Lumtap and check the switch is on. On Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo and Samsung phones, set battery use for Lumtap to No restrictions and allow autostart, or the system may close it in the background.

The Accessibility switch is greyed out or keeps turning off

On Android 13 and newer, open Settings › Apps › Lumtap › ⋮ › Allow restricted settings, then turn Accessibility on again. Some phones turn it off after an update or a battery clean-up; turn it back on in the app.

It says an app is blocked

That app is on your blocked list, so the assistant can't use it. That's intended for banking, password and SMS apps. You can change your own list in the app, but we recommend keeping sensitive apps blocked.

It says the screen is locked or off

The assistant can wake the screen but never unlocks it. Unlock your phone, then ask again.

The pairing code doesn't work

Codes work once and expire after 2 minutes, so make a new one. Scan it from inside the Lumtap app, not from your camera app. A phone that's already paired has to be unpaired in the app first.

The connector won't connect

Check the URL is exactly https://lumtap.tech/mcp, then sign in and tap Allow. If you denied it by mistake, remove the connector in your assistant and add it again.

How do I stop or remove access?

Tap STOP to end a session. To remove access for good, unpair the phone or disconnect the assistant on your account page, or turn off the Accessibility permission.
